Botox Facial Aesthetics
The word Botox refers to a type of injection you can have which relaxes muscles to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Botox is commonly used in the frown line, forehead and crow's feet (around the eyes) and in the upper face. Other more complex areas include the chin, perioral lines (typically known as smokers lines), nefertiti neck lift for a smoother jawline, masseter (for slimming wide jaw lines, especially for those who clench their jaws), depressor anguli oris (for reducing the jowls), bunny lines (to prevent wrinkles appearing on the nose) and underarm hyperhydrosis for excessive sweating.
It is your choice where we administer Botox, it's a big decision and we will be happy to consult with you on where would be best for you.
MSC's Botox Service
The Botox treatment itself usually takes no longer than 20 minutes, however you will want to allow a half an hour in total to be assessed and to have the initial local anaesthetic applied.
For your safety we will review your medical history before you undergo treatment so that we can be sure it will be suitable for you.
The treatment itself involves :
- Applying anaesthetic to the skin
- Cleansing the skin
- Administering the treatment to the offending muscles that causes the wrinkle
- Cleansing the skin
- Making your 2 week follow up appointment
Patients Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe?
Anti-Wrinkle Treatments including Botox has been used since the early 80's for blepharospasm and strabismus and is now used in several different medical conditions including children with cerebral palsy, and adults with underarm hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating).
Does it hurt?
We apply a topical anaesthetic before the Botox which is very effective at relieving any discomfort the procedure might otherwise cause.
How long does it take?
We recommend you allow about thirty minutes to allow time for both the topical anaesthetic, assessment and the treatment itself. Your two week review should only take ten minutes.
How much does it cost?
From £150 depending on the treatment area and the number of areas you want treated. You will be given an accurate price during your consultation.
How does it work?
Botox works by inhibiting the brains messages to that muscle, as a result it doesn't contract as much or as often as it otherwise would. The result of this the wrinkle gets a chance to relax, heal and smooth out. This healing effect is enhanced with further treatments.
How long does it last?
In the upper face Botox usually lasts around six months and this figure tends to increase if you have treatments on a regular basis. Some regular clients find they can go for as long as 12 months between treatments.
How will my skin look?
For the first ten minutes to an hour your skin will probably look red and raised, however this will reduce over the next hour and return to normal the following day. Over the next three to fourteen days your skin will begin to look smoother with the best results appearing from fourteen days onwards.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects of Botox include a headache, and can last a few hours. Other side effects associated with a simple injection are tenderness, swelling and bruising. The bruising is more susceptible around the eyes, however, your skin will be stretched and inspected to avoid small vessels before administering your treatment. Another side effect that is rare is the possible side effect of an eyebrow droop. We would minimise this risk by working to international consensus recommendations, by using the correct doses and the correct injection sites.Contact Us
