Welcome to our December Newsletter. Christmas is almost here, and everyone is preparing for what we hope will be a fabulous Christmas and New Year. As a gift to those who didn't manage to make use of our November Tooth Whitening offer, we are extending the offer as far as we can into December.
We will be providing emergency dental appointments every day over the Christmas break, details can be found below. We are also giving you some new tips for caring for your smile throughout Christmas; some of these may surprise you, read on to find out more.
Enjoy Chocolate this Christmas
If there's one thing that everyone loves during Christmas it's the food. More often than not this means placing your diet on hold and heading to your local shops and filling your basket with all the Christmas delights.
While you may be thinking about reducing the amount of chocolate you have this Christmas, it isn't as bad as you may think. There are plenty of foods that are much worse for your teeth, including hard sweets such as lollipops or candy canes, and food that contains caramel. The sugar found in these types of sweets will cling to your teeth and can cause cavities.
In comparison, chocolate dissolves quickly in your mouth, and isn't as clingy. This means that if you keep up a good dental hygiene routine, such as:
- chewing sugar free gum
- brushing 3 times a day, if you're going to indulge, you'll need to spend some more time cleaning your teeth
- allowing at least an hour in-between snacks, so the sugar and acid levels in your mouth can reduce
You will still able to enjoy a little more chocolate over Christmas without worrying too much about your teeth.
A good replacement for sugary treats this Christmas is nuts, due to their high calcium content. Almond and Brazil nuts have the highest calcium content and are often found in the Christmas spread.
Get Your Children in Over Christmas
Get your child in for a checkup this Christmas. Booking an appointment during term time could mean your children miss out on valuable education time, but you can avoid this by booking an appointment at a suitable time for you over the Christmas break. Book your appointment with your local MSC today.
