New Year, New You!

New Year So 2016 has begun! It's a new year full of new opportunities and new beginnings.
This could be the year that you focus on protecting your dental health. Midlands Smile Centres can help you do that throughout the following year with these simple strategies:

Eat enough fruit and vegetables in your diet
A healthy diet is important for your dental health. Your entire immune system can be prone to many common disorders, which include gum disease.
Fruit, vegetables, pulses and nuts contain antioxidants and other nutrients that help your body defend itself against bacteria and inflammation.
Crisp fruit and vegetables, such as apples, carrots and celery, not only help freshen breath but also help clear plaque from teeth.

Giving up smoking
Tobacco poses many different risks to your teeth, including tooth discolouration, cavities, gum recession, gum disease and throat, lung and oral cancer.
Did you know a smoker is twice as likely to have missing teeth compared to a non-smoker? Smokeless tobacco is just as harmful to your oral health.
Once you have quit smoking though, the risk of tooth loss is reduced.

Cut down on alcohol
We already know that consuming too much alcohol has an effect on our overall health. Did you know it can also affect your oral health and put you at risk of mouth cancer? Studies have shown that people who smoke, have poor diet and consume too much alcohol are at greater risk of gum recession.

Talk to your dentist about how to improve your oral health. Any of our dental practices would be happy to discuss this with you at your next dental check-up.
