Welcome to Midlands Smile Centres June newsletter. This month we have some exciting news about finance plans for dental treatment, as well as, dental tips and job vacancies at Midlands Smile Centres.
We all go to the dentist hoping for the best, but sometimes our high sugar diets mean we need extensive treatment. Wanting to look your best can also require Braces or Dental Implants, which often cost hundreds of pounds. For many years we have offered the smile plan which covers preventative checks and treatment. It also provides discounts on the costs of many of the other dental treatments and cosmetic services we offer. Even with the Smile Plan the cost of cosmetic and dental work can be off putting. It’s no wonder the dental practices are constantly being asked if they can provide finance. We are very happy to announce that the Selly Oak Midlands Smile Centre is now offering finance options for all treatment costing £500 upwards. This finance option is very helpful for those who see dental implants as a good long term investment over bridges and dentures but can’t afford the treatment. The repayment terms of between 12 and 60 months are available. For a long time we have strived to be the most affordable dental practices in Birmingham. We hope these finance options will mean even more people can benefit from our restorative and cosmetic services. If you have been putting off treatment and want to talk to someone about finance please contact our Selly Oak practice who can provide more information.
Stay Hydrated this Summer
The human body is made up of 70% water and we are often told the importance of keeping ourselves hydrated. Studies have shown saliva helps protect against tooth decay. The main symptom of dehydration is a dry mouth caused by a lack of saliva and keeping hydrated helps to maintain a high level of dental health. It’s easy just to keep drinking to help our bodies stay hydrated however we need to make sure we are drinking the right sort of drinks to maintain our dental health so drinking the right drinks to keep us hydrated as well as looking after our teeth can be quite a challenge. Some drinks appear to be healthy for us such as smoothies which contain vitamins and count towards your “five-a-day” but sadly can contain five teaspoons of sugar per 250ml serving, almost as much as a can of cola and also contain very high levels of fructose – a natural sugar found in fruit. The sticky texture also means they are likely to stick to our teeth so try an avoid drinking them between meals and enjoy them in moderation. Fruit juices also contain high levels of natural sugar and powerful acids meaning they are also best to be avoided between meals. Remember to dilute your fruit juice when giving it to children (1 part juice to 10 parts water) also only give it to them during meal times. Sports drinks are incredibly well known for their high volumes of sugar and acid just like a normal fizzy drink. Mouths are most vulnerable while we exercise as we tend to produce less saliva and get a drier mouth leaving our dental health at risk of tooth decay. Try to stick to low sugar or zero sugar drinks or better still have water which is 100 percent friendly for our dental health and will keep you very hydrated and feeling great. If you really struggle to drink water why not find ways of making water taste better like Jamie Oliver’s idea to keep hydrated his summer.
Do you hum while brushing your teeth? Did you know that listening to music while you are brushing your teeth can help you brush more effectively? Many of us don’t brush for long enough, so playing some music or a song that lasts at least two minutes might encourage you to brush for a longer period than you’re used to. This is especially true with children.
Looking great can have a huge impact on your confidence, success and general wellbeing. That's why we offer the latest facial aesthetic treatments in addition to our cosmetic dentistry. These treatments help soften expression lines and define facial contours, making you appear younger and more vibrant.
