Have you finished all of your preparations for this year's Halloween? Trick or treaters will be knocking from door-to-door, looking for a scare and some treats, but our 'Tricks and Treats' could make this Halloween an even more special treat for children, while saving their teeth from a scare. Find out about this and more that's happening at Midlands Smile Centres by reading on.

Domiciliary Visits

Domiciliary Visits

Here at MSC, we understand that for some people it can be difficult to get themselves out to the dentist.  Because of this, two of our practices, Kings Heath MSC and West Heath MSC will now be offering home visits to conduct dental check-ups and treatment.

If you or someone you know is housebound due to illness, disability or lack of mobility, call us now on 0121 444 1928 for Kings Heath or 0121 476 0976 for West Heath to arrange a home visit.

Dental Tricks and Treats

Dental Tricks and Treats

It's October and Halloween is only a few days away. This is a time of excitement for children across the country, who will be preparing to dress up as their favourite characters and spending their evenings hunting for sugary treats. Why not try something different this year, with this selection of treats and tricks.

The Treats

The Tricks

  • Try finding some sugar-free sweets to offer trick-or-treaters
  • Limit any sweets and chocolates to mealtimes
  • Offer healthier alternatives which are better for teeth, such as apples
  • Don't let your children eat any sweets and chocolates before they go to bed, it could cause teeth to decay quicker
  • A great alternative to regular treats is sugar-free chewing gum, it’s both tasty and good for oral health
  • Supervise your children when they brush their teeth, make sure they’re using a fluoride toothpaste and brush for two minutes, this will help to maintain good dental health
  • Take care when considering other treats, things such as dried fruits may seem healthier but can contain high amounts of sugar
  • Encouraging your kids to drink plenty of water - especially when they’re eating treats - is a good way of reducing exposure to sugar
  • Offer alternatives for children with braces, crisps may be a safer option than sweets or chocolates
